Assigning Intervention Lessons
The Compass Behavior Intervention Crosswalk template is a great resource for Admin Users to easily match school/district's current Code of Conduct to appropriate Behavior Intervention lessons. Make copies for multiple tiers and make any applicable edits to the lessons that are listed for instructors.
🚩NOTE: To disable Instructor usage of specific lesson(s), Admin Users will also need to make the lesson hidden in the Lesson Library
Step 2: Communicate expectations/best practices and train instructors, if applicable
Announce program to teachers. Share the answers to the following questions:
-Where will school/district implement the Behavior Intervention Program?
- For example: In School Suspension Room, Students' Classroom, Principal/Vice Principal's office
-Who will be assigning the Intervention lessons?
- Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III
Best practices include:
|
Having follow up discussions with students based on their responses. Read and talk through the student’s response pages, using the Admit, Apologize, Amend structure. |
|
Sharing information/responses and resources with families Utilize the Intervention Family Letter to print or email for notifying families. |
|
Assigning Tier I Intervention lessons for universal prevention Start with the top 2 or 3 behavior infractions in your school and assign the tier I versions of those lessons to larger groups. |
| Connecting lesson assignment expectations to your existing Code of Conduct infractions |

Step 3: Students access lessons and complete assignments
– If the district uses Clever or ClassLink, teachers and students will click on the orange Compass Curriculum icon on their dashboard to access and launch assignments.

– If the district uses a manual login or .csv upload, a roster with login credentials was shared with the District/School Champion during onboarding. All staff and students will sign in through the district’s portal. If you do not know your Compass portal URL, please review the information provided during launch and onboarding.
Step 4: Monitor lesson completion and engagement
Regularly reviewing data is essential for supporting students' growth and decision making. Actively monitoring completion encourages consistent assignment completion and assignments are completed with fidelity. By reviewing student responses and holding follow-up conversations, educators can build rapport and ensure students are on track to make better choices. This process also informs targeted interventions, allowing educators to assign lessons that address specific needs and promote meaningful progress.

Step 5: Review and improve
Once lessons have been assigned and students begin to complete them, the cycle of regularly reviewing and improving the data starts, enabling better decisions to support your students.
BI (Behavior Intervention) Reports:
The Behavioral Intervention Reports provide actional insights for reviewing and improving behavioral trends at your school or district. Here's how you can use these tools effectively:
--Identify Trends
- Track patterns in common behaviors and interventions by school, grade level, instructors who have assigned lessons, student, and tier
- Use data to identify the amount of lessons given for the top behavior themes that have been address by Intervention assignments. High numbers of specific behavior themes may indicate the need for more Tier I lessons to be assigned to proactively support students in your school or district
--Monitor Goal Progress
- Evaluate utilization trends and referral data to measure progress towards established goals
For example: BI Reports provides insights into assigned versus completed data. Allows educators to track whether students are meeting expectations for completing lessons their assigned lessons. This information helps identify students who may require follow-up conversations to reinforce expectations and ensure accountability.
- Pinpoint areas where additional support or adjustments are needed
--Export and Share Data
- Export reports for easy sharing during external stakeholder meetings or team discussions
- Provide stakeholders with clear visuals and metrics to facilitate data-driven decision-making
